Becker, Miss.—Buddy Verdo Cockrell, 68, died on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital—Golden Triangle in Columbus. Born January 16, 1945, he was a son of the late Avery Loyce and Faye Parrish Cockrell. Before his retirement, he was a heavy equipment operator and a driver for Nason Trucking. His hobbies included watching Westerns and wrestling; NASCAR; and he especially enjoyed time with his friends.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in the Greenbrier Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Erma Hall Cockrell of Becker; two daughters, Deann Lisk and Tina McCollum (Mike) of Becker; 3 sons, Johnny Cockrell (Angela) of the Athens Community, Sam Grant (Becky) of Lackey, and Chris Walton of Amory; one brother, Jacky Parrish of Hatley; 9 grandchildren, Samantha Pierce (Matt), Joey Grant, Michael Cockrell (Brooke), Jacob Cockrell (Kelly), Kelly Dodge (Tim), and Aaron, Jordan, Cayden, and Mikaela McCollum; 7 great grandchildren, Marleigh Cockrell, Taylor Cockrell, Wyatt Cockrell, Sarah Dodge, Alyssa Dodge, Xavier Grant, and Olivia Grant; and a special friend, Karen Cockrell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Dessie and Jake Parrish; and two sons, Jacky Joe Cockrell and Jerry Cockrell.
Pallbearers will be Terry Hall, Jacob Cockrell, Michael Cockrell, Mike McCollum, Jr. Barnett, and Phil Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Chism, George McBunch, and Howard J. Nason.
Visitation will continue until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
