Amory— Bruce Carter, 73, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at NMMC in Tupelo. Born on June 21, 1945 in Amory, he was the son of Silas Tom and Eva Lou Thatcher Carter.
Bruce graduated Hatley High School with the Class of 1963. Bruce married the love of his life, Barbara, on July 11, 1964, and together they raised five daughters. He studied TV repair and owned and operated Carter’s TV Sales and Services Shop for 35 years. He enjoyed all of those years with his customers. He also enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and being outdoors. Bruce was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Song Leader. He was also member of the NRA.
Bruce’s faith and his family guided his life. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and fishing with his family. In his free time, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, bee keeping, fishing, and hunting. He read his Bible faithfully and loved attending church service. Bruce was a Godly Christian man, a devoted father, and dedicated family man. He was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. God has called him home, but his family remembers that this is not a goodbye; it is “see you again.”
Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Pickle Carter; daughters, Teresa Isaac (Al), Amory, Denice Walton (Reed), Humboldt, TN, Amanda Mitchell, Amory, Crystal Ward (Josh), Amory, Rachel Boyd (Ben), Amory; grandchildren, Brandi Thorne and Ashley Williams; Zac, Samantha, and Sydnee Walton; Madison, Macie, and Morgan Mitchell; Sunnie Bella and Josh William Ward; Bailey Grace and Brileigh Claire Boyd; great-grandchildren, Bre Harmon, Elijah Thorne, Emma Williams; sister, Betty Jane Tucker, Amory; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Howell.
A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory. Bro. Donald Edge and Bro. Al Isaac will lead the service. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery, Quincy. Pallbearers will include Sam Howell, Brent Rainey, Rick Chaney, Glenn Berryhill, Herman Tomlin, Weston Thorne, Brad Williams, and Zac Walton. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Rocky Springs Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
