Amory – Brenda Colson Mabus, 61, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014, at Gilmore Memorial RMC after a long battle with cancer. Born on October 22, 1952, in Valdosta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Chester “C.R.” and Vivian Norman Colson.
She was a graduate of Valdosta High School Class of 1971. Brenda possessed many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed making pageant dresses. She was a wonderful cook, and was well known for her beautiful cakes. She had a great eye for detail, which always showed in her work. Brenda loved to fish and play with her best friend, Butch, a rescue Chihuahua. She enjoyed the beach and anything outdoors, but most of all, she loved her two children and five grandchildren. Brenda had an infectious personality and was deeply loved by all who knew her.
Having a wonderful relationship with God, she worked with the Fulton United Methodist Church Youth Group for many years. She was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Amory, Mississippi.
Survivors include her children, Teresa Estes (Brian), Amory, MS, and Chip Mabus (Emily), Fulton, MS; grandchildren, Ashlyn and Brody Estes; Madeline, Mallory and Sam Mabus; brother, Benny Colson, Valdosta, GA; sisters, LaVonne Copeland (Ben), Lakeland, GA, and Joyce Ganas (Sonny), Valdosta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, October 23 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the service hour at the church.
