Amory – Bonnie McCoy Bennett, 68, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on August 24, 1946, in Nettleton, he was a son of the late Hoyle Price and Rachel Faye Mills Bennett.
Bonnie attended Nettleton schools. He served in the US Army National Guard in Amory for six years. On July 30, 1966, he married Paulette Parker. As his best friend, she was most significant to him. A self-employed carpenter, he also worked at Nettleton Primary School. One who loved the Lord, Bonnie was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church. Teaching Sunday school with his wife, they shared love for and had a positive Christian impact on the children in their class. He was passionate about looking after his family and teaching his kids and grandkids about being faithful and the “Old ways of life.” Wonderful, loving, and kind, Bonnie had a great spirit and was always happy. If you knew him, he became your friend. He enjoyed traveling, especially going to the mountains, gardening, helping people, camping, and Bluegrass and Southern Gospel music.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Paulette Bennett, Amory; daughter, Melodie Sawyer (Brian Keith), Amory; son, Timothy Bennett (Crissy), Amory; sisters, Opal Bishop, Nettleton, Faye Edward Sanders, Columbus, and Nell Sargent, Amory; brothers, Charlie Bennett, Nettleton, and Randell Bennett, Amory; grandchildren, Mason Payne, Taylor Bennett, Kayla Sawyer Roberts, Bethany Sawyer, and Andrew Sawyer; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Jude Roberts, and Max Sawyer; several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Mae Ratliff and a brother, Tinze Bennett.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, January 27 at Bethel Apostolic Church, Amory with Bro. Coy Hill and Bro. Stanley Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mason Payne, Taylor Bennett, Andrew Sawyer, Trey Roberts, Andy Taylor, and Ryan Gurrieri. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric and Derrick Taylor, and Chris Sawyer.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Monday at Bethel Apostolic Church, 800 Tschudi Rd., Amory.
