Smithville – Bobby J. “Chubby” Young, 84, was welcomed into the Kingdom of heaven on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on July 12, 1931, in Smithville, he was a son of Kelly Noe “Kel” and Ruth Delree Burdine Young.

Chubby attended Smithville School. Following school, he joined the US Air Force, honorably serving overseas during the Korean War. On October 6, 1965, he married the girl who caught his eye, Ina Rae Fugier. Chubby’s life was guided by his love for Christ and his family. For more than 30 years, he was an FAA Radio Communications Inspector. Chubby also owned and operated Chubby’s Electronics, Chubby’s Pool Hall, and Chubby’s Trophies.

A Christian man, he attended Cross Bound Church. Chubby was a 60-year member and life-member of Smithville Masonic Lodge #548. On September 10, 2015, he was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. An amateur radio operator, his call # was “WB5SBJ;” Chubby was a member of Northeast MS Radio Amateurs (NEMRA, Inc.). Feisty and independent, Chubby looked forward to spending time with special friends Tim Webb and the breakfast crew at Country Kitchen each day.

Hardworking fun-loving and quick-witted, Chubby loved life and loved people. Chubby was passionate about being a mentor to young people when he operated the pool hall. He loved to dance, play pool, and work on electronics. Chubby was an avid MSU and Smithville Seminole fan and loved to watch his grandsons play.

Survivors include his wife, best friend, and soulmate of 50 years, Ina Rae Young, Smithville; daughter, Cheryl Young Hodges (Brian), and son, Robert Burdine “Robby” Young (Mary) of Smithville; grandchildren, Tyler Scott; Kyle and Heath Noe; Lacey, Tony, Tanner, and Lindsey Young; great-grandchildren, Reed and Slade Scott; Lily and Jackson Jones; and Ryder Harrington; brother, Joey Young, Counce, TN; several nieces and nephews; best friend, Tim Webb.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nelda Skinner; and brothers, Bud, K. P., Burdine, and Kelly Young.

His Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Monday, January 4, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville Chapel, with Bro. Kevin Crook officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Robby Young, Tim Webb, Jason Comer, Brian Hodges, Tony Young, and Thomas King. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of Masonic Lodge #548, Smithville; Country Kitchen Breakfast Club; and Smithville Boy’s basketball and baseball teams.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday, at the Smithville Chapel.
