Splunge – Billy W. “Pops” Young, 55, died on Monday, November 14, 2011, at his residence. Born on April 1, 1956, in Tupelo, he was a son of the late Ivy and Mary E. Whitten Young.
Billy had worked for EZ Haul Sales in Tupelo. He was Southern Baptist. A wonderful and devoted father and grandfather, Billy enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Hatley Volunteer Fire Department. Willing to help anyone in need, Billy enjoyed listening to Old Country music, being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and watching wrestling.
He is survived by his sons, Billy W. Young, Jr. (Kelly L.), Benjamin S. Young, and Kevin R. Hathcock, all of Splunge; foster daughters, Candace Staley, Gulfport and Alisha Roberts, Bigbee; sister, Teresa Fairley, Poplarville; brothers, Terry Ladner, Gulfport, Earl Young, Louisiana, and Tim Stevens, Fulton; grandchildren, Christopher K. and Joan E. Young; Cami E. Ross; Dylan M. Young; and Kyme and Kyle Claridy; cousin, Sherry Lackey Claridy, Wren; nieces and nephews, Billy J. and Sarah Robertson, and Linda Joan Husley.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Joan E. Young.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, November 18 in Lann Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Hathcock, Mitch and Matt Minga, Mark Allen, Coy Howard, and Christopher Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Garza, Jason Wigginton, Amory MedStat, and Alan Gurley.
Visitation will be from 9 – 10:30 AM, Friday at the funeral home.
