Amory — Billie Gray, 88, died on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at his home. Born October 11, 1925 in Hatley, he was a son of William Robert “Bob” and Josephine Derrick Gray.
He was married to Ruby Camp in 1949. Before his retirement he worked for 32 years for the Frisco Railroad and 1½ years for the BNSF Railroad. He had worked as a deputy sheriff under Pat Patterson and had held various security jobs. He was the oldest member of Greenbrier Methodist Church. He was a 5-time past patron for the Eastern Star, a Mason, and a Shriner. He was a U.S. Army veteran and he was an avid collector of various items. He enjoyed dancing.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Sammy Washburn, Bro. Lloyd Sweatt, and Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will be in the Gray Cemetery in Nettleton.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Ruby Jean Camp Gray, two daughters, Billie Jean Gray of Amory and Brenda Randolph of Nettleton; two sons, Roger Gray of Amory and Randall Gray (Debbie) of Amory; two sisters, Nell Camp of Amory and Jane Hoots (David) of Amory; 3 brothers, Clyde Gray (Virginia), Ed Gray, and Kirk Gray (Ludeen) all of Amory; one sister-in-law, Sally Camp of Amory; 9 grandchildren, Chris Gray, Randy Gray, Joey Randolph, Jimmie Lee Randolph, Bridget Sanders, Justin Randolph, Cory Gray, Greg Randolph, and Tammy Sullivan; 9 great grandchildren, Andrew Randolph, Abby Sanders, Karli Gray, Chas Sanders, Lucas Randolph, Hannah Sullivan, Hali Sullivan, Zack Randolph, and Cameron Randolph; and a great great grandchild, Addison Randolph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Susan Gray; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Randolph.
Pallbearers will be Chris Gray, Cory Gray, Justin Sanders, Randy Gray, Jimmie Lee Randolph, Timmy Camp, Mike Riley, Bill Clements, and Gennie Dodd. Honorary pallbearers will be employees and retirees of Frisco/BNSF Railroad.
Visitation will be 5 until 9 p.m. on Thursday evening and will continue until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
