Amory - Bill Chism, 74, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Sanctuary Hospice House. Born on March 28, 1941, in Amory, he was the son of the late Horace Daniel “H.D.” and Earldine Shields Chism.
Bill attended school in Becker and Amory. He selflessly served his country by serving in the United States Army. He persevered and received his GED in the US Army. He was in the 101st Airborne Division,The Screaming Eagles. He married the love of his life, Loraine Tahtinen on August 28, 1961 and together they were blessed with three children. Bill was of the Baptist faith and his family, friends and animals were the most important things to him. He liked to play with his grandchildren. He was a strong man, both physically and mentally who was very forth coming. He was a serious motivated business man who owned many businesses in his life time. Some of the businesses included Tri-Mart Exxon, Chism Motors and A-1 Muffler in Amory. When he had down time, he enjoyed watching racing, both Nascar and dirt track racing. He was an outdoorsmen who liked to hunt, fish, farm and work in the yard. Above all, being a great father and grandfather was his most important accomplishments in life.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Loraine; daughters, Sheila Harris (Norm), Smithville, Linda Gosa (Bobby), Columbus; son, Ken Chism, Amory; grandchildren, Alisha Houk (Tim), Brian Berryman (Tabitha), Jayson Gosa, Tanya Gosa; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Drew, and Molly Houk; Aaliyah, Kylie, and Bentley Berryman; Tomas, Damian, Maria, Miguel, and Juan Gosa; special canine friend, Babe.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, March 11, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery, Becker, MS. Pallbearers will be Johnny Gray, Doug Stanford, Danny Russell, Buddy Chism, Johnny Brown, and Al Stevens.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday, March 10, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to any of the following charities, Amer. Cancer Society, Amer. Kidney Foundation, Amer. Diabetes Assn., or Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo, MS.
