Betty Ritter

Carolina Community – Betty Joan Phillips Ritter, 70, began her new life in Heaven on, May 1, 2020. Born on December 20, 1949, in Amory, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Benson and Ozema Wright Philliips.

Betty grew up in Monroe county and graduated with the Hatley High School Class of 1967. Betty met and married the love of her life, Calvin Anderson Ritter and together they were blessed with a daughter. She was not just a great mother, she also made time to work to help the family. She worked for Super Sagless for over 20 years. A woman with a kind heart and great smile, Betty also worked in the public where she happily served. Betty worked for a while at Dollar General and later worked at Walmart where she was employed until becoming disabled. She loved God and was a member of Carolina Church in the Carolina Community until recently moving close to her daughter’s family in New Albany.

In her free time, Betty loved being around family and friends as well as her beloved dog, Bandit. A great sister, loving mother, and devoted wife, Betty was a gift and blessing to her family. She cooked for them and was always a kind welcoming soul. Not taking life too serious all the time, she had a great sense of humor and made others laugh. An intelligent woman, she enjoyed tackling the toughest of crossword puzzles. She liked to listen to Country and Gospel music. As her family and friends reflect on the woman she was in their life, her hobby speaks loud and clear to them, as she collected Angels. They know she was an Angel sent to them, to love, care and help guide them. Betty will be missed dearly yet her loved ones have faith that she is praising God and surrounded by eternal love.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Calvin, Carolina Community; daughter, Catina Ann Ritter Donahue (Wade), New Albany; grandchild, Cody Donahue (Amber), New Albany; two great grandchildren, Kaylynn and Dawson Donahue, New Albany; sister, Joyce Head, Amory; niece, Evanglina Stanford (Jim); nephew, Jamy Head (Holly).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ozema Philliips.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2020, at Hatley Cemetery with bro. Larry Harrison and Bro. Gene Conwill officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cody Donahue, Jim Stanford, John Bryant Stanford, Bryce Stanford, Jamy & Calvin Head; Jimmy Wiygul.
