Betty Jane Phillips

Amory –Betty Jane West Phillips, 77, died on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at North MS Medical Center. Born March 6, 1935, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Gwendolyn Louise Boyd and Roy Clifton West. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Mac Phillips, on August 14, 1954.

Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Becker High School, Class of 1954. She was passionate about giving her help and time to anyone in need. Mrs. Phillips was employed in the garment industry for many years and was a caregiver to her mother. She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church for forty-six years and a helpmate to her husband, Bro Mac, pastor of Calvary for almost forty-six years. Mrs. Phillips was a constant companion with her husband in ministry and being a blessing to people. Her enjoyment in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Phillips enjoyed the Gaither Gospel hour on television, cooking, sewing for her grandchildren, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bro. Mac Phillips of Amory; her son, Steve Phillips of Amory; her sister, Mary Lou West of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Eric, Stephanie and Amanda Phillips; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Abigail Phillips, Mason Cates; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy and Louis West.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church, Becker, with Bro. Kendall Waycaster, Bro. Chris Murray, Bro. Pat McNair, Bro. Tommy Akin, and Bro. Levon Boatner officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bro. Evan Branham, Bro. Charlie Branham, Tyler Phillips, Bro. Kenny Moffett, Bro. Mike Steele, Bro. Ralph Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bro. James Tate, Bro. Jim Best and Bro. Clyde Moody.

Visitation will be from from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, at Calvary Baptist Church.
