Betty Dodd Thibideau
Columbus, MS – Betty Jane Dodd Thibideau, 76, passed away at Generations Nursing Home in Vernon, Alabama on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. She was born on September 6, 1948, in Monroe County to the late Irvin F. Dodd and Inez Blaylock Dodd.
Betty grew up in Monroe County in a very large family with seven other sisters. At an early age, she learned the importance of family and how hard work was important to make it in life. She attended Becker schools and went to work as a seamstress at a young age in the Furniture Industry. Betty didn’t tire easily, was a dedicated employee and helped provide for her family while she was growing up. At the age of 20, in 1968, she married the loved of her life, James T. “Jim” Thibideau and they were blessed with one daughter and two grandchildren whom she cherished. She and her husband shared many great memories together for over 35 years until his passing in 2003.
Family meant the world to her and she always enjoyed times just being together, whether eating, shopping or just passing the time. Through the years, her experiences with her large extended family gave her great wisdom in life. She was the last remaining Dodd sister here on earth so she knew how to soak in every moment as each is precious. Betty was a feisty, sweet loving woman who had no problem being direct when asked her honest opinion. A servant, Betty would do anything for anyone in need and she could always be counted on in tough times.
Her flower garden gave her great joy and she enjoyed making beautiful arrangements with the variety of blooms the garden provided. Betty was talented and made all sorts of crafts during her lifetime. In her downtime, she liked to listen to Gospel music as well as Country Music. Her family will miss her dearly yet they know that she is at peace. Her legacy of love and the memories made will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Taylor, Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Brittany Burns (Wesley), Columbus, and Chelsea Taylor (Friend Rocco), Hialeah, FL; a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James. T. Thibideau and her best friend, Pat Estes.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS with Pastor Dejuana Wallace officiating.
