Betty Jean Brown

Amory - Betty Jean Harmon Brown, 86, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at her residence in Amory. Born on March 1, 1930, in Smithville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Graden and Bertha Cooper Harmon.

Betty graduated from Smithville High School with the Class of 1947. She married the love of her life, George A. Brown, on April 22, 1948. Together they were blessed with a daughter, Wanda. During her lifetime, she worked in one of the most important jobs in the country; she was a dedicated homemaker. Betty was a long-time member of Becker Baptist Church. She had strong Christian beliefs, and she would give her opinion on what was right and what was wrong in this life. A determined individual who was normally private, if you sought her out, you could count on her giving you good sound advice. She liked to listen to Southern Gospel as it supported her strong convictions and faith in the Lord. Betty was talented at cooking, and she especially was good at preparing desserts. In her free time, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Grubbs (Ray), Amory; brother, Roy Harmon, Hamilton; grandchildren, Tim Grubbs, Amory, Amy Payne (Tommy), Amory; great-grandchildren, Mallory Taylor (Ira), University Place, Washington, Emily McCarley, Amory, Autumn Grubbs, Nettleton, Mary Kaitlyn Hill (Trey), Fayetteville, NC, Beau Payne, Nettleton; great-great-grandchild, Coy Hill, Fayetteville, NC; several nieces and nephews.
