Betty Brook Harris

Amory – Betty Brook Harris, 96, had a sweet reunion with her husband and met her Savior face to face on Saturday, December 17, 2022. She was born on December 3, 1926, in Marianna, Arkansas to the late William A. Owens and Maude Brook Owens.

Betty grew up in Arkansas, graduated from High School and went on to further her education at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was an intelligent woman who was thorough and had a great work ethic. Betty Brook eventually moved east to Amory, Mississippi. She initially worked at the Shumpert Truck Line and later she made a career at Security Bank in Amory. For over 34 years, she became the familiar friendly face to most people in Monroe County. Everyone knew Betty Brook and she was a trusted member of the banking industry in Amory.

She married the love of her life, W.C. “Boo Boo” Harris on August 6, 1949, in the first ever double wedding conducted at First Methodist Church with the other couple being Elizabeth Vaughan and Stuart Abney. Together God blessed them with a daughter. She and her husband loved to dance together and listen to Big Band music. Betty Brook enjoyed life to the fullest and was involved in the community. She was a longtime member of Amory First United Methodist Church. Her faith in God meant the world to her and she knew where she was going once she left this earth. Betty was a member of the Finder Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women’s Circle.

In her down time, Betty Brook liked to travel, spend precious time with her family and friends, and get involved in different projects in the community. Betty was also a life member of the Amory Junior Auxiliary club, as well as five different bridge clubs at different times. She also occasionally substituted in her daughter’s Bunko group, showing the younger players a thing or two.
Betty enjoyed those hours spent with friends.

A spirited woman with a catchy name, no one can forget Betty Brook. She will be missed dearly and her family and friends know that she is dancing in heaven and healed. Until we meet again Betty Brook!

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Harris, Amory; nieces and nephews, Bonnie Lee Henderson, June Mayes, Earl Mummey, Denise and Quinten Stevens; Linda Andrews, Harriet M Wisener, Jann Jordan; great niece, Brook Grubbs; great-great niece, Caroline Grubbs; and several other great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bill and Maude Brook Owens, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. C. “Boo Boo” Harris; sister, Helen Owens Cothron; Brother-in-laws, Robert Cothran, Earl Mummey, Henry Stevens and John Harris; Sister-in-Laws, Mary Grace Harris Stevens, and Marguerite Harris Mummey.

A Celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Amory First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wesley Pepper and Dr. Rusty Keen officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery with Pallbearers being Michael Wisener, Jim Mays, Earl Mummey, Bubba Young and Dickey Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Quinten Stevens, Jon Paul Grubs, Josh Randle, Jamie Randle, Steve Randle, Joe Brennan, Jerry Maxcy, The Former Employees at Security Bank and The Staff at River Place Nursing Center.
