Cason – Bessie Evelyn Sloan, 82, died on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Gilmore Memorial RMC, Amory. Born on May 13, 1932, in the Cason Community, she was the daughter of the late William Shipman and Janie Mitchell Moore Adams.
The youngest of ten children, Mrs. Sloan was a graduate of Pine Grove School. She was an active member of Cason Baptist Church. A devoted mother and grandmother whom everyone loved, Mrs. Sloan enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; gardening; and music.
Survivors include her sons, Johnny Sloan (Carol), Amory; David Sloan (Michelle) and Robin Sloan (Jennifer) of Hatley; and Tommy Sloan (Dana), Nettleton; daughters, Brenda Cruse (Jimmy), Nettleton, Jo Conaway (Rick), Pontotoc, Wanda “Bug” Sloan, Shannon, and Sandy Stovall (Rick), Okolona; sisters-in-law, Bertha Adams, Dawn Cantrell, and Janice Pennington of Nettleton; 20 grandchildren and 23 great- grandchildren, who called her “Mama Bessie;” and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Joe, Charles, and Ed Adams; sisters, Clemmie Adams, Myrtle Parish, Ollie Hood, Mary Poss and Nannie Mae Adams; grandson, Justin Matthew Sloan; and the father of her children, William Sloan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, July 24 at Cason Baptist Church with Bro. Shane Crawford and Bro. Sammy McMillen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home. She will lie-in-state at the church from 1 PM until the service hour on Thursday.
