Amory – Bessie Mae Palmer, 86, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015, Merit Health Gilmore Memorial. Born on October 27, 1928, in Crosby, MS, she was a daughter of the late John Andrew and Lettie Belle Agden Wisner.
Mrs. Palmer was a graduate of Crosby High School. On August 19, 1947, she married Rufus F. Palmer. Mrs. Palmer was an outstanding mother and homemaker. A wonderful Christian lady with unwavering faith, she was a radical for Christ, loving God with all her heart, mind, and soul and her neighbor as herself. Mrs. Palmer was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. An avid reader, she read and studied her Bible daily, loved to quote scripture, and was passionate about witnessing to others about Christ. Having a huge heart, she was always helping other people. A great gardener, Mrs. Palmer also enjoyed sewing and doing crafts.
Survivors include her daughter, Bessie Shelton (Richard), Mammoth Spring, AR; son, Rufus F. Palmer, II, (Pamela), Amory; grandchildren, Erica Shelton Humphreys (Brent), Heather A. Palmer, and Savannah L. Palmer; 5 nieces and 7 nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Fannie Wilson and Bea Shell.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:15 AM, Tuesday, August 11, 2015, in Haughton Memorial Park with Bro. Bill Monaghan officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Palmer, Jerry Carter, David Carter, Brent Humphreys, Ben Cother, and R. W. Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Soap Francis, Johnny Cadden, John Hanson, and the ICU Staff at Merit Health Gilmore Memorial.
Visitation will be from 10 – 11 AM, Tuesday, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gideon’s International, Monroe County Camp, PO Box 107, Aberdeen, MS 39730.
