Amory- Bernice Tubb Simmons died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Oak Tree Manor. Born December 15, 1927 in Hatley, she was a daughter of William “Uncle Bill “Moody Tubb and Susie Lee Carter Tubb. She married Harris Don Simmons in 1945.
She attended Hatley School and was a graduate of Amory High School Class of 1946 where she was a member of the band and All State Guard in basketball. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Grand Representative for MS, for over 50 years. She was a longtime bookkeeper and seamstress in Amory. She enjoyed being with her family, especially cooking for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed canning, cooking and gardening.
She is survived by her son, Kenny Joe Simmons (Patty), Amory; sister, Janell Tubb Glasgow (Billy), Amory; grandchildren, Zach Simmons (fiancé, Louisa Garner), Jackson and Justin Simmons (Faith), Amory; great grandson, Joshua Clay Simmons; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Harris Clay Simmons; sisters, Edith Spratt Wiygul and Evelyn Miller and brothers.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm, Monday, February 17, 2014 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be James Capps, Jr., Ron Nye, Steve Glasgow, Bill Burrow, Jr., Buddy Simmons, Barry Simmons and Jerry Reid. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Hollingsworth, Thomas “Pappy” Pearson and Bill Carson.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2-5pm at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home.
