Amory - Bernice Nell McCormick, 88, died on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Golden Living Nursing Center in Amory. Born on September 5, 1923, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Coleman T. and Omie Nash Hathcock.
She married Ernest Lecil McCormick; he died in 1994. She was a graduate of Smithville Schools and before her retirement she was a seamstress in the garment industry. A woman of faith, she was a member of the New Hope Church of Christ and enjoyed singing. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, and flower gardening.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Philip Hathcock officiating. Tom Fair will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Brown, Wayne Roebuck, Larry Spann, David Highland, Jimmy Dahlem, and Mark Parham. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Geter, Jeremy Gurley, Josh Small, Mark Rhodes, and John Fausz.
Survivors include one daughter, Alana Fair (Tom) of Meridian; one son, Monty McCormick (Cindy) of Hatley; two sisters, Delores Cox of Amory and Joyce Bunch of Tuscaloosa; 5 grandchildren, Emily Geter, Elizabeth Gurley, Sarah Small, Meredith Rhodes, and Miranda McCormick; 2 great grandchildren, Will Geter and Hank Geter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Hoyet Hathcock.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening and will continue until service time on Wednesday.
