Amory – Bernice Loraine Miller Jones, 95, started her new life in Heaven on Friday, June 16, 2023. She was born on March 2, 1928 in Pontotoc, MS to the late Robert and Gatha Brown Miller.
Bernice grew up in Pontotoc County in a large family and she attended the Randolph School system. She married the love of her life, Leroy Jones and they were blessed with five children and wonderful life together. Bernice was a great wife and mother and she also worked to help support her family. She was a seamstress for the Seminole Garment Company in Aberdeen as well as a Nurse’s Aide in the Okolona Hospital. By far, her most favorite job was raising her family in whom she took great delight.
Bernice loved the Lord and was a member of East Amory Baptist Church. A sweet woman, she liked to listen to Gospel and Country music and she was strong in her beliefs and faith. At times she could be feisty and she was always energetic and she wouldn’t hesitate to tell you like it was. Often times, she would tell her family “You had better get a hold of those kids!”. She sewed, crocheted, gardened and cooked for her family, always reminding them “No eating in the big room now!” One of her closest friends was Joann Akers and they spent a lot of time solving the World’s problems.
She will be missed dearly by all she left behind but they know she had a sweet reunion in Heaven and is in the presence of the Lord.
Bernice is survived by her sons, Roger L. Jones (Sandra L.), Caledonia, and Robert H. Jones (Susan), Amory; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Heloise Perkins, Batesville, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Jones; children, Brenda Miller Wood, Garry Jones and Bobby Ray Smith; 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
The family would like to offer a special offer of thanks to the staff at Riverplace Nursing Center for their great care and love that they gave to Bernice.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 11:00 am at Carey Springs Baptist Church, Pontotoc, MS with Bro. Jeff Blackwelder officiating. Burial will follow in Carey Springs Cemetery, Pontotoc, with Pallbearers being friends and family.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, June 19, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm., at the funeral home in Amory, MS
