Cason- Benjamin “B.L.” Curtis, 88, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. Born February 12, 1925 in French Camp, MS, he was a son of the late Robert Leslie and Carrie McWhorter Curtis.
Mr. Curtis was raised and attended school in French Camp. He owned and operated Curtis’s Grocery Store in the Liberty Community for 27 years and attended Cason Baptist Church. Realizing he didn’t like retirement, he worked as a Security Guard for Army Aviation Support in Tupelo for 23 years. Enjoying the simpler things in life, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and always stayed busy doing something.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Holly K. Curtis; daughters, Eleanor Welshans, Little Elm, TX, Ann Cheney, Smithville, and Teresa Harlan (Eric), New Hope; sons, James Herman Reifers (Dee Dee), Pontotoc, Robert Reifers (Brenda), Arlington, TN, and Ricky Reifers, Bowling Green, KY; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Sunday, March 10, 2013 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Shane Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip and Murlis Underwood.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 9, from 5 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
