Amory – Benjamin “Benny” Elliott Rodgers, Jr., 67, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Pioneer Community Hospital. Born on June 12, 1947, in Aberdeen, he was a son of the late Benjamin Elliott Rodgers, Sr., and Ann Nunn Rodgers Chance.
Benny was a graduate of Aberdeen High School and attended IJC. He lived in Aberdeen for several years before moving to Amory. On May 30, 1998, he married Becky Young. Benny was a Senior Certified Inspector for MDOT. A man of faith, he was a member of First United Methodist Church. Having a big heart, he was passionate about children, the elderly, and animals. His life was surrounded by his family, friends, and his dog, Molly. Benny was a former Boy Scout leader and a former Mason. He enjoyed sharing tools and shop talk with his friend and neighbor, C. B. Peden. He liked listening to Gospel music by Celtic Woman and reading his Bible, Christian books, and faith-based literature.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 17 years, Becky Rodgers, Amory; son, Jason Yates (Jen Hood), Houlka; sisters, Sara Crenshaw (Mike), Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Parker Yates, Gosnell, AR, and Cameron Yates, Houlka; step-grandsons, Connor and Wyatt Esterley, Houlka; step-great-granddaughter, Payton Rayann Esterley, Houlka; nephew and nieces, Shawn, Shannon and Katie Crenshaw.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, March 20, 2015, in Haughton Memorial Park, Amory with Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Pallbearers will be C. B. and Charlie Peden; Kevin, Keith and Mitchell Baxter; and Kenny Powell.
Visitation will be from 12 – 1:40 PM, Friday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:40 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
