Ben Parish Jr.

Arlington, TX – Ben Parish, Jr., 83, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Autumn Leaves of Arlington. Born on January 15, 1932, in Hatley, he was a son of the late Velma Lorene Nelson and Ben Parish, Sr.

Ben graduated from Hatley High School in 1950, and honorably served in the US Army 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict and also in the US Army National Guard 198th Tank Battalion. Accepting a job in Illinois, he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Pierce, of Red Bay. On July 11, 1957, they were married in Hatley. A hard-worker who was dedicated to his job, he retired from Commonwealth Edison in 1989, after 34 years of service as a work analyst. Ben and his wife moved to Amory and were members of Meadowood Baptist Church. Always looking out for his family, they moved to Arlington, TX, in January 2007, to be closer to family. Very active and mechanically-minded, Ben was proud of their accomplishment of building their home with his wife and family. He enjoyed fishing, Gospel and Country music, and tinkering on projects at home.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 58 years, Jacqueline P. Parish, Arlington, TX; daughter, Pamela Parish Toms (Bob), Beach Park, IL; son, Ronald Parish (Angela), Arlington, TX; sister-in-law, Nellie Parish, Hatley; grandchildren, Cheyenne and Peyton Parish; several nieces & nephews; and his schnauzer, Gretchen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise West, Lena Miller, Laverne Hughes, and Carrie Lee “Peggy” Jones; and brother, James Parish.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:15 AM, Tuesday, June 23, 2015, in Hatley Cemetery with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Basham, David Strawbridge, Tom West,
Vollie Pierce, Bill Pierce, and Bobby Bostick. Honorary pallbearer will be Rodney Parish.
