Smithville – Mr. Basil E. “Buddy” Hood, 69, died on Monday, September 20, 2010, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on July 14, 1941, in Itawamba County, he was a son of the late Ivy Cecil & Davannah Vay Blake Hood.
Buddy honorably served his country in the US Army, the National Guard, and the US Air Force. He worked as a mechanic for the Frisco/Burlington Northern Railroad and later worked for Eutaw Construction as a heavy equipment operator. A member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school Superintendent, he attended Smithville Baptist Church. A unique guy who never met a stranger, Buddy enjoyed people watching, coin collecting, woodworking, fishing, Country music, and watching the news. He owned Racking show horses and was a Jeff Gordon fan.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kay Hood, Smithville; daughter, Michele Rhea Hood, Birmingham; sister, Donna Faye Hood Smith, Peaceful Valley Community; and six nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Mitchell Hood.
A Funeral service for Buddy Hood will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, September 23 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Wes White and Bro. Joey Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rollin Turnage, Robert Woodham, David Reese, Mitch Hood, Raymond Sandlin and Bobby Blake. Honorary pallbearers will be Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
Visitation will be from Noon until the service hour on Thursday.
