Smithville – Arvis Dean Williams, 74, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at NMMC Hospice. Born on August 29, 1943, in Detroit, AL, he was the son of the late Raymond V. and Omar Bell Weaver Williams.
Arvis was a graduate of Hamilton, AL, High School, Class of 1960. Working in insurance sales for 30 years, Arvis always helped people plan how to provide for their loved ones. He spent most of his working years writing and filing insurance for W. E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo. During his lifetime, he was blessed by God with two children. A very God centered gentleman, Arvis was a charter member of the House of Prayer Church in Amory. He loved the Lord and he served as the Director of Bible Training Service at his church. His life was guided by his faith and his family. He had a great passion for supporting the Gideon’s ministries as he knew that getting God’s word out to the world was of utmost importance. Arvis loved his family and he was especially proud of his grandchildren.
Incredibly humble and having a sweet spirit, Arvis always put others first. He was very personable and a true gentleman to everyone. As a people-oriented person, he never met a stranger. In his free time, he loved to read, draw and listen to Gospel music.
Very good working with his hands, Arvis enjoyed making walking sticks. The memories he leaves behind will be cherished for generations by his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his two loving children, Candace Taylor (Anthony), Fulton, and Mark Williams, Amory; his special sister, Marylene Branham (Billy), Smithville; grandchildren, Cody Williams (Alisha), Ripley; Payton Edwards (Keith), Smithville; Ashlynn and Madison Taylor, Fulton; Jordan Williams, Baldwyn; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Williams and Stetson Edwards; nieces and nephew, Sheila Coker, Amy Braham, Phillip Branham; several great-nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, December 9 at E. E. Pickle funeral Home with Bro. Jamie Gillentine and Bro. Doug Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Gillentine, Dewayne Laney, Doug Dean, Robert Humphries, Mike Loden, Matt Lyle. Special friends and honorary pallbearers will be Trice Spencer and Hoyt Jordan.
Visitation will be from 5-8PM, Friday, at the funeral home.
