Amory – Arthur R. Mauriocourt, 106, died on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Oak Tree Plantation. Born on August 26, 1904, in Port Alleghany, PA, he was a son of the late Louis Jean and Wilhelmina Morrison Mauriocourt.
Mr. Mauriocourt attended schools at Bald Eagle, PA, in West Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. In 1944, he married Rubye Wooten. Before moving to Amory, Mr. Mauriocourt was with Western Auto Supply Company for 24 years and served as Southeastern Sales Manager. He and his wife, Rubye Wooten Mauriocourt, moved to Amory in 1945 and owned and operated the Western Auto Associate Store for 32 ½ years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Mauriocourt was the first chairman of the Amory Housing Authority, a two-term Alderman of Amory, a member of the Amory Chamber of Commerce, a 50+ year member of the Rotary Club of Amory, and a member of the Amory Masonic Lodge, including Knights Templar and Order of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by a son, James N. Mauriocourt and daughter-in-law, Kay Johnson Mauriocourt of Dunwoody, GA; granddaughters, Kay Paige McIntosh and Pamela Kelly Bennett, both of Dunwoody, GA, and Dr. Lisa Leigh Moss of Novi, MI; five great-grandchildren; and the fellowship of numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rubye W. Mauriocourt and a great-grandson, Wiley G. Moss.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, June 18 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ira Kennedy, Tony Poss, Thomas Griffith, Gene Haney, Kevin Crook, and Robert Pickle. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Francis and Glenn Flowers.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to Baptist Children’s Village, P. O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060.
