Arlen Wright
Athens Community—Arlen Lee “Poochy” Wright, 67, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. Born October 3, 1946 in Amory, he was a son of Homer Lee and Clytee Bailey Wright. He was a 1964 graduate of Aberdeen High School; he attended IJC, and was married to Dean Kendrick. He began working for American Potash in 1967, then later Kerr McGee, and retired from Tronox in January 2004 after 37 years. While at Kerr McGee, he implemented a maintenance computer program and was able to travel to India, Belgium, Australia, and many other countries. He was a member of the Mississippi National Guard for 6 years and a member of Paine Memorial United Methodist Church. Each Monday, he enjoyed Redneck Rotary eating lunch with his buddies. His hobbies included golf, hunting, fishing, watching westerns, riding his tractor, and piddling.
A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2013 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Sammy Washburn and Bro. Tom Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in the Greenbrier Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dean Wright of Athens; two sons, Lee Wright and Scott Wright both of Athens; one sister, Doris Boyd (Earl) of Quincy; one brother, Billy Gene Wright (Becky) of Starkville; 6 grandchildren, Zachary, Chanler, Austin, Will, Ginny Lee, and Elia Claire Wright; his step-mother, Winona D. Wright of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be John Sheely, Clinton Sykes, Bo Hill, Robert Odom, Larry Tartt, and Billy Wilemon. Honorary pallbearers will be the Redneck Rotary, Johnny McCollum, Joe Jackson, Brunson Odom, Tom Milner, and Eddy Arnold; and Tronox employees.
Visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday and will continue until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
