Alice "Ruth" Stanford

Alice Ruth Stanford, 88, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital. Born on October 14, 1929, in the Parham Community, she was a daughter of the late Will and Belle Hathcock Miller.

Ruth graduated from Hatley High School with the Class of 1947. During her career, she was a factory seamstress and an optometrist receptionist, but she loved her country store where she met many people. Ruth was a member at Meadowood Baptist Church for over 37 years before moving to Cason Baptist Church Ruth was a Sunday School teacher at Meadowood and Cason. She was also a member of the building committee and flower committee at Southaven Baptist Church A strong willed, loving person, Ruth was passionate about her community and giving to others. She was a very outgoing lady and a true “people person” with a heart of gold.

Ruth was a member of the Quilting Bee Club in Bigbee. When her children were young, she served as a Room Mother. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed Gospel and old Country music, especially Marty Robbins. She also listened to love songs and was an avid reader. Ruth spent much of her time sewing and cooking for her family. Above all, she loved raising and caring for her family. Ruth leaves behind many cherished memories for her family and friends to remember for the years to come. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is rejoicing in her heavenly home now.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy Stanford Boatman (Jerry), Carriere; sons, David Stanford Jr. (Janice), Amory, Danny Stanford (Pam), Amory; sisters, Nellie Parish, Amory, Virginia Parish, Ft Worth, TX, Jean Roberts, Collierville, TN, and Eunice Stevens, Fulton; granddaughters, Angel Dawn Westbrook, Amory, Tina Stanford Matthews (Brian), Madison; Rebecca Boatman Hartfield (Clark), Hattiesburg; Jessica Stanford Jackson (Chris), Amory; Grandsons: James David Stanford, III (Devin), Griffin, GA; Jordan Stanford (Leigh Ann), Amory; Great-Grandchildren: Carley Westbrook. Jacob Westbrook, Kylee Westbrook, James D. Stanford, IV, Jana Stanford, Rylie Matthews, Nathan Hartfield, Watt Hartfield, J.D. Moore, Charlie Kate Stanford, Tollie Ruth Stanford and Josiah Stanford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Stanford; an infant son; brothers, Dow Miller, Daniel Miller, and Clarence Miller; sisters, Mae East, Louise Parham, JoWill Thornton and Midge Hodges.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, June 2, 2018 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt, Bro. James Rutledge and Bro. Matt Long officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery in Amory. Pallbearers will be Jamie Stanford, Jordan Stanford, Jacob Westbrook, Clark Hartfield, Chris Jackson, and Brian Matthews. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Stanford, Nathan Hartfield, Nathan Matthews, J.D. Moore, Wyatt Harfield and Josiah Stanford.

Visitaiton for Mrs. Stanford will be from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, June 1, 2018, at the funeral home.
