Fulton, Miss.—Alice Melissa Montgomery Best, 79, died on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Meadows in Fulton. Born November 16, 1934 in Monroe County, she was a daughter of Daniel Richard and Rosa Pulliam Montgomery.
A graduate of Becker Schools she married Tommie Edward Best. She was a member of Providence Sovereign Grace Baptist Church and before her retirement, she was the cafeteria manager at Smithville High School and she was a baker in the cafeteria at Gilmore Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, working crossword puzzles and reading.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Bobby Amos, Bro. Wes White, and Bro. Wesley Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Tommie Edward Best of Aberdeen; one son, Ed Best (Thresa) of Smithville; two sisters, Pernie Hester of Germantown, TN and Tula Hollingsworth (Bobby) of the Athens Community; 2 grandchildren, Kelly Young (Britt) and Stacey Upton (Mathew); and 5 great grandchildren, Alyssa Mackey, Alex Mackey, Bailey Young, Addison Upton, and Brayden Upton.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa Ann Best; 3 brothers, Willie Montgomery, Fred Montgomery, and Donnie Ray Montgomery; and 5 sisters, Jessie West, Ester Holcomb, Hazel Evans, Richie Cicerelli, and Bennie Pennington.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday and will continue until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
