Jimmy Ray Harlow

Amory – Jimmy Ray Harlow, 68, died on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at his residence. Born on December 28, 1945, in Nettleton, he was a son of the late John Henry Harlow and Dorothy Kimble Harlow Burgess.

Jimmy attended Hatley High School. On July 2, 1965, he married Barbara Monaghan. Drafted soon thereafter, he honorably served in the US Army in Vietnam and later was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. Jimmy worked as a welder at Delta, as a supervisor at Cramco, at True Temper and also did home repairs. He was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Kind, patient, loving, strong and thankful, Jimmy loved his family and was passionate about Veterans’ Affairs. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Jimmy enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and brothers-in-law, being outdoors with his grandchildren and Country and Gospel music.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Barbara M. Harlow, Amory; daughters, Lori Harlow Pressley (Greg), Amory, Jennifer Harlow Harris (Brent), Nettleton; son, Michael Andrew Harlow (Tina), Amory; sister, Jewell Harlow Thompson, Amory; brothers, John “Bub” Harlow (Donna), Amory, and Bobby Harlow (Shirley), Hatley; grandchildren, Ashley Ann Harlow, Courtney Harlow, Chelsie Harlow, Taylor Harris, Aaron Pressley, Jayla Harris and Anna Claire Harris; great-grandson, Weston Cade Myers; several nieces & nephews; special friends, Jim Evans; Tom “Doc” Torres; J. B. and George Monaghan; and Wayne and Wanda Young.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles F. Burgess; niece, Tonya Harlow; nephews, Tommy and B. J. Harlow; brother-in-law, Billy Thompson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 15 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Gordon and Rev. Don McCain officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Stone, G. W. Walls, Chris Harlow, Jonathan Donovan, Hollis Monaghan and Bufford Monaghan. Honorary pallbearers will be the Vietnam Veterans group from Tupelo and the Veterans of Company D, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
