GEORGE ALBERT OLSON
August 6, 1933 – September 4, 2023

George Albert Olson, 90 years of age, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing and received by loved ones on the other side, on September 4, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center - Gilmore Amory.

George lived a long and fulfilling life. He married the love of his life, Christine Tucker Olson, on December 30, 1950. They were married for 63 years before death took her. He now is reunited with her. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest joy. His great-grandchildren affectionately called him Poppie. George was a caring and compassionate man who lived the gospel of Jesus Christ every day of his life and studied the scriptures daily, raising his children to do the same. He was born the son of sharecroppers during the Great Depression in Caseyville, Lincoln County, Mississippi and reveled in hard work all of his life. He made sure that his children were well educated and provided well for them. George could be quite the jokester at times and loved laughing and making others laugh, his Don Knott’s imitation was spot on.

George’s hobbies included singing, fishing, hunting, carpentry, gardening, landscaping, reading, studying scriptures. He had a beautiful voice into his late years and when younger would regale the church congregation each Christmas with O Holy Night and each Easter with In the Garden. He loved spicy food and peppers. For him there was no such thing as too hot. He was also an avid fan of western movies and old west lore. He will be greatly missed by all of those that knew him.

George is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine Tucker Olson, parents, Carl Pontus Olson and Margaret Louisa Young Olson, and all of his siblings: brothers Axel Olson, John Olson, Gus Olson and sisters Annie Hiller, Edna Olson, Tina Olson, Rose Olson, and Blanch Winsted.

He is survived by his children: Daughters: Deborah Frederick of Amory and Vicki Scott (Chuck) of Enterprise AL. Sons: David Olson (Joyce) Colorado Springs, CO, Dennis Olson (Leesa) of Aurora, CO.
Grandchildren: Christy Colburn (fiancé Tommy Griffith), Jared Bounds (Kristi), Rachel
Fortenberry (Lane), David Olson (Lauri), Heath Olson, Candace Olson, Theresa Deyo (Ryan), Samantha Conner (Jeff), Amanda Patton (Preston), Charles Randklev (Jennifer), Rebecca Kiss (Brandon), Stephanie Walker (Josh), Gillian Reid (Briggs), Victoria Olson, Jeffery Scott (Sara), Hunter Scott (Adrienne), 35 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kindred Hospice for taking care of Mr. Olson for three years. George especially loved Abigail Jones, nursing assistant, who he relentlessly picked on because he loved her so much. Abigail would give it right back and she knew how to make him feel cared for and loved.

The family would also like to express their gratitude toward the staff and physicians at North Mississippi Medical Center-Gilmore Amory for the selfless and compassionate care given to Mr. Olson during his illness.

A graveside Celebration of Life service will be held at 3pm, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Auburn Baptist Church Cemetery in Tupelo, MS. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 p.m. at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory.
