Aberdeen – Dr. Sale D. Randle, Sr., 74, died on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice. Born on February 1, 1936, in Greenwood Springs, he was a son of the late C. Sale & Christine Atkins Randle.
Graduating from Aberdeen High School, Class of 1953, Dr. Randle received his undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees from the University of Mississippi and did work at the University of Colorado and Mississippi State University. A life-long educator, he began his teaching career in Aberdeen before moving to Greenville where he became a teacher, administrative assistant to the superintendent and later, assistant superintendent of the Greenville Public Schools. Dr. Randle served as Registrar for the University of Mississippi in 1974 and was later named as the first Director of the University of Mississippi Center in Tupelo. For nine years, he was on the staff of the Division of Continuing Education before being named President of Wood College in 1986. He was of the United Methodist faith.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth (Claude) Purvis, Hernando; son, LTC Don (Tammy) Randle, Tampa, FL; granddaughters, Meghan and MacKenzie Randle, Tampa, FL, and Mary Anne Purvis, Hernando; sister, Ann Phillips, Sun City, AZ; brothers, Silas (Alicia) Randle, Austin, TX, and Pete (Julie) Randle, Amory; and aunts, Lucille West, Aberdeen, Helen Atkins, Amory, and Hazel Dahlem, Aberdeen. He was married for thirty years to the former Mary Lillian Fulmer, Hernando.
A Committal service for Dr. Sale D. Randle, Sr., will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, September 29, 2010, in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery, Aberdeen, with Dr. Eldridge Fleming officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Eldridge Fleming, Dr. Billy Bishop, Tommy Chandler, Sam and Dennis Atkins, Sank Owen, David Randle, Mike, Donald, and Ronald Dahlem, Kevin and Danny Atkins, William Dean and Glenn Atkins, C. E. Jones and James Stockton. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 AM, Wednesday.
Visitation will be from 5:30 – 7:30 PM, Tuesday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the University of Mississippi Foundation, Dr. Sale D. Randle, Sr., Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 249, University, MS 38677-0249.
