Colene King Hitt
Hatley – Colene King Hitt, 75, passed away on February 24, 2017, at her residence. Born on August 1, 1941, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Archie Clay & Myrtle Lamb King.
Colene attended school at Carolina Community, Dorsey and IAHS. She married Lewis E. Hitt on July 8, 1960, and together they were blessed with 4 children. She is Baptist and her family was the most important to her in her life. Colene initially worked as an inspector at Amory Garment and she retired from Block Corp. in 2003. Some of her close friends at work were Lois, Joyce, Virginia, Rosanne, Lisa and too many others to mention. She was a friend to many.
A lady who was full-of-life, spunky, fiery and very genuine, Colene dearly loved her family and friends. Colene loved camping, fishing, flower gardening as well as getting out on the road traveling. Enjoying Country and Gospel music, her favorite musicians were Elvis, Kenny Rogers and The Eagles. Having a close bond with her sister, Myrlene, they loved doing everything together. She most enjoyed being surrounded by her children, grandkids and great-grands. The memories she gave her children, family and friends will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her daughters, Gayle Brown (Darrin) and Kim Ross (Shay) of Amory; sons, Steve Hitt, Aberdeen and Chris Hitt (April), Amory; sister, Myrlene Dill, Amory; brother, J. C. King (Wanda), Mooreville; grandchildren, Josh Hitt, Eric Sanders, Leah Hitt Street, Brittany Logan, Lauren Hitt Woods, Alex Ross; Abigail, Christopher and Carson Hitt; great-grandchildren, Dayton Hitt, Kinley Brooke Reeves, Lakelyn Hitt, Aubrey Street, Wesley Logan, Connor Woods, Maddy James Logan; best friend, Bobby Kennedy; sister-in-law, Carol Carley (Richard), Columbus, and Susan Stevens, Maine; brother-in-law, Bennie Hitt (Holly), West Point; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; grandson, Nicholas “Nick” Blake Brown; sister, Eloise Waddle; brothers, James Harold, Wade and Dallas King; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Deadwyler and her husband, Sonny; brother-in-law, Billy Wayne Dill.
Her Funeral Service will be at 1 PM, Monday, February 27 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. R. D. Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darrin Brown, Benny Hitt, Eric Sanders, Josh Hitt, Alex Ross, Christopher Hitt and Terry Dill.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday, at the funeral home.
